Our Members

BMED exists to encourage interdisciplinary practice within biomedical technological innovation at the student level.

We welcomesmembers from all faculties and engineering departments!

As a team, we strive to share knowledge, skills and experiences to expand the biomedical field.

Our Mission

BMED believes in education through application, with multiple projects in simultaneous development to provide members with experience in a collaborative project-driven environment.

Projects are developed for local charities or competitions with the goal of practicing ‘engineering skills’ and enriching the lives of people with disabilities, caregivers, and/or clinicians.

All members have the opportunity to learn and practice skills within the design process for whichever project(s) they are interested in.

Our History:

In 2012, UMBES, the University of Manitoba’s Biosystem Engineering Society was founded. UMBES preceded BMED as the only Biomedical Engineering entity at the University of Manitoba.

In 2019, former president, Krista Bergen, merged BMED and UMBMES into BMED. By bridging resources and goals between the two groups, the new BMED was able to increase interest in events previously run by UMBMES.
