About Us

The University of Manitoba's Biomedical Engineering Design team, BMED, exists to bring together students at the University of Manitoba interested in the biomedical field. The team consists of members from different disciplines and faculties, such as Science and Engineering. Within the Engineering faculty, we have students from Biosystems, Electrical, Computer, Civil, and Mechanical departments all collaborating. The team works to share knowledge and experience about the biomedical field gained through competing in biomedical design competitions, industry events, product development, tours and tutorials.

The BMED team believes in education through application, with multiple projects in development simultaneously to provide members with experience in a collaborative project-driven environment. Each project will undergo an iterative phases of discovery, design, prototyping, and testing, allowing each member in different projects to have opportunities for contribution to each part of the design process.

Interested in Biomedical Engineering?

The Price Faculty of Engineering offers a biomedical specialization to provide engineers with knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to enhance the understanding of the role to be played by engineers in specific areas within biomedical engineering such as rehabilitation engineering, clinical engineering, medical imaging, and orthopaedics.  A biomedical specialty can be undertaken from the departments of Biosystems, Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical by undergraduate students in any year.
