About Us
BMED has members from the faculty of engineering, science, and computer science, from all years of their undergraduate degree. Within the faculty of engineering, there are students from many disciplines including Biosystems, Computer, Electrical and Mechanical.
Our Purpose
BMED, exists to bring together students from all faculties at the University of Manitoba interested in the biomedical field. The team works to share knowledge and experience about the biomedical field gained through competing in biomedical design competitions, industry events, product development, tours and tutorials.
Our Mission
The BMED team believes in education through application, with multiple projects in development simultaneously to provide members with experience in a collaborative project-driven environment. Each project, developed in collaboration with a company or charity, will undergo an iterative phases of discovery, design, prototyping, and testing, allowing each member in different projects to have opportunities for contribution to each part of the design process.

History
UMBMES previously existed before BMED as the only Biomedical Engineering entity at the University of Manitoba. Under the presidency of Krista Bergen, who played a huge role in the transition, BMED and UMBMES, a special interest group, were combined in 2019, known now just as BMED. This was completed to generate more interest for the events usually ran by UMBMES, and to share resources between two groups that had similar goals.
